About Organization

Gastrointestinal and liver diseases are an important, often forgotten, cause of morbidity and mortality in our population. Infectious agents, bacterial, viral and others are the most important cause of the gastrointestinal and liver diseases in developing countries, including ours. Importantly, the pattern of and cause of the diseases are separate from that in the developed countries of the west. Thus, the West Bengal State Chapter of IGS (ISG WB) was formed in 1988 in the Department of Medicine at Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, Kolkata to encourage and advance the knowledge and practice of the speciality of Gastroenterology and Hepatology among the clinician and researchers in our State. This state Chapter is apart of Central ISG. Mission To increase awareness amongst the inhabitants and healthcare professionals in West Bengal about the Gastrointestinal and liver diseases, and educate the health professionals the current update of GI and liver diseases in West Bengal. Vision Increase awareness of GI and liver diseases among the common people in West Bengal. Provide latest information and achievements in the treatment and diagnosis of complicated GI and liver diseases to the health professionals for proper management of the diseases. Facilitate training and research of the young clinicians and researchers in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Our chapter has always stood at the forefront of advancing gastroenterological care, education, and research in the region. West Bengal, with its rich legacy in medical science and academic excellence, has consistently contributed to the growth and evolution of gastroenterology in India.

As we look ahead, our focus will be on academic excellence.

We aim to organize regular CMEs, conferences to keep our fraternity updated with the latest advancements in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy.
